ok, so for some reason today whenever i try to edit a video it tells me the display acceleration is disabled. So I looked for an answer and found one. It says to disable “hardware acceleration composition, layer and footage panels” . I tried doing this but the box with “disable hardware accelelation“ is completely greyed out so I can’t even click it. Also I tried applying an effect to my video and it didn’t even show up or work. Please help.

I very infrequently have this issue. A reboot helps.

And ensure you have the latest GPU driver installed.

I was seeing this again after updating to Nvidia Quadro driver 460. I reverted back to 457 and it went away. I will see if I can post this to something on the Nvidia site too.

    What is "preference setting reboot"?

I hope you didn't delete your preference as this isn't normally required. A simple reboot of the machine should suffice.

Could you tell me the steps in order to fix it? also I’m not sure what a GPU driver is

Please Google "GPU" - it's an acronym for Graphics Processing Unit. It's your graphics card.
AE uses the GPU for its engine to drive its user interface (UI).
Occasionally, when you run other apps, together with AE, weird things happen and the GPU has issues keeping up; changing from one instruction to another, between/across different apps.

Did a reboot/computer restart help alleviate this issue?

To install the latest GPU for you computer, a lot depends on your computer/OS/GPU. What are these on your system?
