Question

Downscaling large images, losing quality!

Hello,

I've recieved a pdf from a client with vector files so that I can take part of the image and use them, but the overall file is 7016x4961 and when I try and downscale to 1080p using After Effects, Photoshop, or Illustrator - it loses quality, mainly in the text. I don't understand why it's doing it and it's really difficult to work with!

Someone please help me, I'm going insane! ahahaha

Not sure what you expect. That's just how it is. Downsampling/ resizing simply ditches information and interpolates the rest. The bigger the scale discrepancy, the more gets thrown out. You have to think of a different strategy like re-creating the text natively in Ae and likely will have to spend time to refactor other elements as well to make them suitable for video usage. It's just never a good idea to merely scale down a print product. Start by requesting the actual source files that were used to produce the PDF so you can individually process and optimize each of them in the program best suited - vector artwork in AI, pixel images in PS and so on before bringing everything into AE to assemble a composition from scratch that mimics the look and feel of the print document, but compensates for the lower resolution with increased font sizes and different placment of some elements.
