Hello there,
I am fastcinated by the piano videos with particles. I learned how to create particles with particular and now, I have an aditional question to this topic. I am curious how the midi notes can be editet? This looks amazing and I think this can not be done with a simple filter. Here are two examples.

Does anyone have an idea, how this is made?

Midi notes are made on 3rd party software usually, like MuseScore. You can add and remove notes there after importing a midi. Then if you export the midi file that you edited and added it to Synthesia, you can record that and put it into AE to add some VFX like in this case the particles, a glow and maybe some CC or the other effects like images, added into the notes and flickering smoke like effect.

Hello JqkeFX,

I know how to edit midi files and use the synthesia video creator. I am also able to edit the synthesia video to a black backgroud and the midi notes to another color. I am going to learn about VFX or Glow and hope I can do what I want to. Thanks for your help.

Sure, it's not a "simple filter", but it can all be done with plain AE and a bunch of plug-ins. The real trick is simply how to get the data into AE since it doesn't support MIDI. You have to rely on external tools and use some old scripts and plug-ins that may still be found on AEScripts.com. Otehr than that it really just comes down to the millions of "audio visualizer" tutorials that explain all sorts of fancy techniques.

Hello Mylenium,

Thanks for your answer and your help. These are the right keywords for me to investigate this.
