Export AE to layered PSD

So far I know of 2 different ways to export to a PSD, but each has it's own problem:

  1. 'Save Frame As / File' — flattens all layers
  2. 'Save Frame As / Photoshop Layers' — saves low-resolution, also some with some glitches (at least with the 3D objects I'm using)

Is there a way around this? I don't get why the first option flattens everything and exports it at a lower resolution?

The Photoshop export will use "Current Settings", which means it will honor the current preview resolution. You need to set it to full/ 100% zoom before exporting. This is also mentioned in the online help. The "scaled" thing has nothing to do with AE, but since you haven't provided any specific info on your Photoshop settings or for that matter your system we can't really tell you much on that. Scaled previews usually mean that the content just doesn't fit the current artboard/ canvas.

Great thanks, might it have been because my resolution was set to 'Third'?

What do you mean by "lowering resolution"? What is going on in your comp? you need to be more specific. The functions work just fine, but of course there are limitations. Contrary to common misperceptions, AE is not "Photoshop, just with anaimation“ and things simply work differently. not everything can be translated smoothly, at least not without exta work. Anyway, you need to provide better info.

So my comp is 1080 x 1800px... but when I save as Photoshop layers, the file output is 360 x 600
