Face tracking problem

I just got After Effects for just the new? face tracking feature. I have watched all the videos I can find.
Here are the steps I have done.
Import mp4 video
Create a mask around the face.
Tracked the mask with 'face tracking detailed"

Set rest pose.

New null layer.
Extract and copy tracking info.
Clicked on the video layer.

Here is the problem. The "edit" button is greyed out.I can't transfer the tracking info to
the null object.  (I want to link another face to the null object) I have switched the "new
null layer" and 'extract and copy tracking info' in the sequence above. I know that I am getting
tracking info because I get all the squiggly lines. I even tried just the scale, rotation, etc. but again
the "edit" button is greyed out. I am using Windows 10. My computer is strong enough because it
easily runs VR.
Am I missing something?  I seem to br following the right steps. Thanks

What Edit button? Are you using the highly recommended Motion Tracking Workspace? All you need to do is select the workspace, select the mask, go to Tracker, then run the tracking. After tracking, you get a bunch of keyframes for the parts of the face. Reveal the Parent/Link column if it is not visible by pressing Shift + F4, then drag the pickwhip from the Null 1/Transform/Position property to the appropriate tracking information. All you get is Position on each feature from the Face Tracker. If you need position, scale, and rotation, you need to tie things like Right Eye Pupil, Left Eye Pupil, and Chin together with an expression that will make those calculations for you. I think that there might be a script for that somewhere.

Here's the workflow in 8 seconds:
