Gold Effect

Heya, a beginner here.

I am trying to create a gold effect to camera footage, basically have everyday objects seem in a gold color.

This is for a film about Midas' golden touch story.

From a previous discussion I had a while ago I understood that the gold color can be created with adjustments layer and the reflections with pre-made footage or masked white solids.

However, the adjustment layer isn't quite giving a convincing gold color to all objects, rather just overall increasing the yellow/orange color in the footage.

My question is, how can I make it so in a footage that contains many different objects, these objects will appear golden? Especially with completely opposite color objects, for example blue ones.

      I never done this but here are my thoughts...

      A. It's not really a project for a beginner.....

      B. Gold is metal...metal has very low diffuse qualities & is mostly different degrees of reflection.

      look at some gold & metal textures on google images to see the range of

      lights and darks involved in making something look like metal.

      You'll never achieve a realistic gold look with just a single matte color.

      I all depends on how realistic you need it.

      The right color with right blend mode and some sparkly hits effects might be enough.

      Maybe desaturate the object first so it's just lights and darks then overlay a goldish color & figure out a way to add some specular hits.

      Or you could get yourself a gold texture off Google images or someplace else then apply that

      texture over your objects using blend modes and maybe some distortion effects to try and get

      the highlights in the right position.  Or if you skilled in drawing you could do some paint overs to add the specular hits

      It might be easier to isolate the objects, export them to photoshop, manipulate the gold texture onto

      them & then bring them back into after effects.

      You're going to have to do some work and then utilize blend modes.

      If it's live footage with a moving camera, good luck creating a realistic gold as reflections are not

      static & you'l have to do it frame by frame if you want it to be convincing.

      There's no simple way for this. For a consistent look you will need tons of masks and individual color corrections. Big film productions would avoid it by simply creating the environment in a 3D program, others by creating uniformly colored sets that can later be made to look like gold. As Gutter-Fish said you'll likely end up piecing it together using every trick in the book and every tool you have at hand.
