So recently after upgrading to windows 11, i've been facing multiple crashed on aftereffects when trying to multitask. As soon as i open another app or even windows explorer, aftereffects would crash and my graphics driver would refresh. Disabling hardware decoding in import section fixed this issue but is there any another workaround?
Turning off hardware accelerated gpu scheduling in windows setting seems to have fixed the issue! I guess windows continously using the gpu to improve latency caused an issue while simultaneously decoding supported footage in aftereffects.

Without exact info about your system, in particular GPU and graphics driver version nobody can tell you much. that is of course kind of the answer - a simple driver update might improve matters.

Hi Ali24553665fq61,
That's not ideal.
Do you mind sharing the version of the GPU driver that you're using? If it's a Game-Ready driver, try installing the latest Studio driver. Studio drivers are optimized for apps like After Effects.
Let us know how it goes.
Note: Moving this thread from Bugs to Discussions for troubleshooting.
Thanks,

Hey there! Yes im currently using the latest studio driver 535.98
I tried reinstalling after effects couple of times but still no luck. Also this crashing issue is constricted to aftereffects only, all other applications work fine so it probably cant be a gpu issue right?

Are you getting the same thing using a new project?

yes its the same outcome with every project containing h264/hevc footage. There are no issues with other formats such as prores

As you know h.264 is very hard on the machine.
You might want to try Shutter Encoder to convert the files (before editing) to ProRes (make sure it's constant frame rate also) Maybe try ProRes LT or even PROXY format within Shutter Encoder for easy to edit formats with 'better' files size.

Are there any crash reports or error messages? That would help us to get to the root. If not, go to Help > Enable Logging (After Effects will start logging events). Relaunch After Effects, make After Effects crash, relaunch it, and then go to Help > Reveal Logging file. It'll open a few folder windows. Share the After Effect Log.txt from the logs folder.
Looking forward to your response.
Thanks,
Nishu
