In this tutorial short keys Shift+Ctrl+H is use to hide the over layer. But it is not clear enogh to see which one is hidden. Please see whether you can find it.

You can find the shortcut in the Layer Menu just to the right of Show Layer Controls. If you have already hidden the layer controls, the menu item will read Hide Layer Controls. I hide and then show layer controls all the time when I am working in After Effects, so I can ensure that I am seeing what will be rendered.

That is one of the main problems you will find in tutorials that enthusiasts have prepared. Even professionals are not immune to the occasional omission. Still, their workflows are almost always much more efficient than the workflow described in the tutorial you are trying to follow.
