How do I duplicate a layer?

I have looked. Can't find it...

I tried all the normal moves.

To find the keyboard shortcuts try the Help/Keyboard Shortcuts menu to get to the online help. Another option is to use the Edit/Keyboard Shortcuts Menu or Alt/Option + Ctrl/CMnd + ' to open up the Keyboard Shortcut editor. There is a search field and typing 'dupli' there will lead you to

Ctrl/Cmnd + d to duplicate a layer.

Type 'layer' in the search field and you'll find all kinds of other great keyboard shortcuts you can use to split layers, move them and change settings.

Spending a little time with the User Guide or a few minutes exploring the Learn workspace will also help you find your way around After Effects.
