Hey everyone!

I thought of creating a disco-like background for my lyric music video but I'm not sure how to achieve that. I want to animate the lights to match the song's beat as well. If anyone could drop me some tips that'd be amazing! 😊 I'm also attaching 2 images that will give you an idea of how I would like the lights to look.

Thanks

Daniel

The effect you're referring to is called volumetric light,. where light beams from a light source hit particulate haze in the atmposphere, making the light beam visible.

There are all sorts of ways to simulate volumetric light, but the easiest way I know is using a third party plugin called Trapcode Lux.  It generates volumetric light from standard After Effect lights.

In your case, generate keyframes from your audio track's amplitude.  Create some lights and position them where you want them.  Link their brightness and/or rotation to the audio track keyframes, using expressions.  Add Trapcode Lux.

If you don't want to spend any extra money, your best bet to create all sorts of lighting effects would be stacks of the Circle effect and Radial Wipe. That way you can play around with opacities, colors, blending modes and feathering.
