How to import Illustrator into After Effects to animate?

Participant ,

Hey there Adobe Community,

Basically, what I want to do is animate a vector based image in after effects to animate it there. I know that I have to put the layers/paths in individual seperate layers in Illustrator first in order to animate it individually in after effects. Even when I did that, it didn't work. When I imported it in after effects, I chose the option to import it as composition (that's what I heard what you should do) but nothing showed up in after effects. Then I tried importing it as footage...still didn't work.

The first thing I tried was downloading something from iconfinder (website to download vector based icons) and following the procedure described above, but it didn't work either. So, I thought..ok, then I'll do it myself, but it still didn't work...

What am I doing wrong?

Looking forward to your help and guidance.

Thank you.

There are 2 compositions.

What do you see when you open Acohol instead of Alcohol 2 composition?

If you double clickin AE the .ai file to create a composition you will get these 2 compositions.

If you choose Import as Composition you will get only one.

Can you confirm the exact version of the software and operating system you are using?

Also, can you include a screenshot of your layers panel?

I'm using CC 2019 for Illustrator and CC 2020 for After Effects.

This is one I drew myself in Illustrator then I would save it as a Illustrator file and go into After Effects and import it as a composition, but no layers are displayed...

On top of that, it doesn't show in after effects AT ALL.

I hope that you are able to see the pictures I attached in here.
