Question

How to move multiple paint/erase strokes on timeline at once

Hi All,

I've been using AE for years, but just discovered the paint option.  Perhaps it was a mistake, but I made a matte painting in AE instead of in Photoshop.  However, I realize now that half the paint/erase strokes appear for only one frame.  Likewise, many paint strokes only happen for half the timeline.  I was assuming that my paint/erase strokes were going to populate all frames of the timeline unless I intentionally animated them.

I've tried to select all the paint/erase strokes at once and move them, but they won't all select.  And since so many only appear on one frame, I not only have to move those strokes, but I have to extend them across the whole timeline.  There are hundreds.

Is there any way to select multiple paint/erase strokes and either move or expand them at once instead of doing each one individually, which will take tons of time?  Any suggestions would be greatly apprecaited.

Thanks!

Select the layer with "Paint" applied. Press the 'u' key twice. You will see each stroke, the brush size, the start and end points, and every other property you can manipulate or keyframe. All you have to do is set Start to 0% and End to 100% for the stroke to last forever. Add keyframes to Start or End, and you can draw on each stroke.

If you ever have questions about controlling any property, start by pressing the U key twice or just start spinning things down in the timeline until you find all the controls. Every property you can animate or change for every effect will show up in the timeline if you dig deep enough.

Thanks Rick.  I'm using CS6, and I don't see the start and end times, though I see each stroke, it's brush size, color and position.  So I'm guessing that's a limitation of CS6?  Also, your directions seem to show how to change each stroke individually, but is there a way to get all the stokes to "last forever" by selecting them all?  thanks again!

Correction:  now I see start and end times.  Not sure what I was looking at earlier that didn't have them.  Thanks.  However, the start time is already at 0% and the end at 100%, yet the strokes are not covering the whole timeline.  So, I'm confused.  And also, is there a way to select them all and change them at once instead of one at a time?
