Illustrator images not updating automatically.

Using the most current versions of AE and AI. I'm finding that Illustrator files are not updating in AE when I edit them. They seem to only change after the first edit and any future edits won't update. Any help appreciated! Thanks!

It's best to select the layer in AE and hit Ctrl+E to open in Illustrator. When you're done in Illustrator, make sure you save it. When you go back to AE it should be updated automatically. If it's not updated for some reason, select the footage and hit Ctrl + Alt + L (Reload footage).

I forgot to mention that you have to Reload Footage from the Project Panel, not the Timeline. You can also right-click to reload. But if it's still not working, you could try emptying the Disk Cache.  If it still fails, try doing a Save As... in Illustrator, import the new file into AE and do an option-drag over the selected layer to replace. See if it updates then.

Reply from the future, I'm currently having the same issue. The only thing I got to work for me was to make a copy of the AI file and manually replace the layers from the Project panel in AE. I deleted the orginal file and renamed the copy to the original file name the changes reverted.. My only shot in the dark guess is it may have something to do with the cache? As in, it's remembering an old version and sticking to what it thinks Project.ai looks like but it will read Project2.ai or Project_copy.ai fresh. SO that's my workaround for now.
