Hey everyone,
Hope youre doing well. I was hoping to get some help with this particular project im working on currently.
So im following this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjGm9aazJMY&t=173s
for how to make glass text.
It went super well, i had no issues. However when I try to make the same text happen using a default color background instead of a dynamic one, I have no idea how to make the adjustments. Can someone point me in the right direction to make this text look like glass over this white background? Hopefully while also maintiaing the same lighting throughtout the project.
I've included some pictures & videos of what is going on, the text settings make it hardly show up so. I also have this lighting issue for when I acutally use the caustics layer, it shows up in a different light so I was hoping to see if I can make it one light through the entire project?
Thank you in advance, open to other ways of making this happen too!
PS. Yes i know the monitor is dirty, cleaned it after filming lol!

Caustics needs something to reflect. If there is nothing that is unique in the layers you use as sources for the reflections, you won't get any detail. If you put a piece of glass in the middle of a room with all-white walls and uniform lighting and nothing in the room with any texture or detail to reflect, it will be very hard to see the glass. The same goes when trying to create a glass effect in AE or any 3D application. You need something to reflect in the glass.

That was my understanding of caustics as I compared the two exampled projects, But i was hoping to see if anyone knew any settings that I could tweak to make it closer to glass with the example provided. And if not, if there is any reccomnadations on maybe what I can do here, as I'm stumped.
I guess what im asking is, anyone got an idea to what I can use as a reflection to be able to use this white background?

You can use anything. Just pick something that looks like it might be compatible with your design idea. I have applied cloudy skies, cityscapes, the forest, mountains, and fractal noise to a solid. Anything with texture will give you something to work with.
