Importing Vector layers from Illustrator to After effects

Hello, I imported an Illustrator file into After Effects (Composition - Retain Layer sizes)

My problem is I can't seem to play the timeline without a flicker effect with this muliticoloured error graphic. I am also unable to extend the length of each layer that is stuck to 5 frames. I think I am inporting it wrong.

Is there a better way to import vector layers into after effects from Illustrator?

Turn off the "Sequence" option in the import dialog and reimport your graphics. You may want to educate yourself about some basics.
