Interface issues: Panels un-maximize when changing tools or middle-mouse moving the view.

On Mac. Since updating to 23.4.0 I've noticed that if I change tools while working in a maximized composition panel, the panel un-maximizes. This behavior also occurs when navigating around the composition with the middle-mouse button. As soon as the mouse is released the panel un-maximizes.

For now I can just rearrange panels to try and make the composition panel as large as possible when I'm doing shape and mask work, but it is far from ideal.

I've also noticed that the scrollwheel navigation in general has gotten much laggier. Previously a single scroll click would make a single scrolling movement (either across tabs or down a list), now it seems to take quite a bit of input to initiate the scroll behavior. I've replicated this on both a mouse and a trackpad, and do not see this behavior on other software.

Actually I think I know what the un-maximizing is about. There is checkbox in the toolbar when Text or Paint tools called "Auto-open Panels" and if that's enabled, AE is un-maximizing to bring up the associated panels. This is now likely more prevalent with the new Properties Panel as there are more tools Auto-opening panels now. You can turn off the checkboxes for the different tools and see if that helps.

Have you installed any new panels or drivers recently? Do you have a video of what's happening? I can't think of anything we've done that would have started causing AE to behave in this way.

Now that I've said that, I actually can reproduce the un-maxizing behavior so I'll get that bug written up.

Un-checking Auto-Open Panel totally fixed it! Appreciate the fast reply, saved me a lot of pain next week
