Hello! i am trying to import a .tif RGB sequence for which i need to manually set the interpret footage as ignore everytime. I used to get a popup in previous versions (currently using 18.2.0) asking how i wanted the footage to be read, not getting it anymore. What does one need to do to get this popup everytime such a sequence or any sequence is imported? Manually doing it for every sequence is an additional step that one could do without.

Not sure if you are talking about the RAW Import dialog box, but this window it will open only if you have raw material. I've never seen that dialog when imported RGB TIFF files. Anyway, it is not mandatory to set the interpretation one by one. Once you have interpreted one footage, you can go to File > Interpret Footage > Remember Interpretation. Then, select the rest of the files and go to File > Interpret Footage > Apply Interpretation. This way you can automate this process with a couple of clicks.

What's the raw import dialogue box? I always used to get a popup when i would import any sequence where one could selcet to ignore the alpha(the window one gets when they press Ctrl+Alt+G). I know you can apply interpretations like so but i am used to just checking them at the time of import. These updates are so frustrating!!

Enter into After Effects Preferences > Import. You can select what is the AE behaviour when importing footage. Check attached image.

Maybe the best option right now is to delete the preferences. Press and hold CONTROL (COMMAND)+ALT+SHIFT as soon as you launch After Effects. A dialog box appear asking for deleting the preferences file. Click OK and try to import your sequence again.

Could you share one of these TIF files with us via wetransfer? Maybe the alpha channel is not tagged correctly in the emtadata and AE is not able to interpret it.

If I open any of the tiffs in Photoshop, it does not contain any alpha channel this is why AE doesn't ask you about interpreting the alpha. This is something really strange, it looks like this was a PNG sequence (because it has transparency but not associated to an alpha channel) and the file extension was replaced. Any kind of alpha channel is embedded in a conventional TIFF file.
What is the origin of these files?
