You don't have Spatial interpolation when you separate dimensions because there is nothing to interpolate. You need at least two variables, X and Y.
The Bezier handles on the motion path in the Composition Panel also go away when you separate dimensions. It's almost impossible to create an accurate motion path with a curve in it with separated dimensions.
