Hi,

Currently trying to use the 'Keylight + Key Cleaner + Advanced Fill Suppressor' effect on a RAW photo from a Pansonic S1. As soon as l select the 'Screen Colour' and select the green screen, After Effects then crashes immediately.

Found the solution. Go to Preferences > Display, and then un-tick "Hardware Accelerate Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels"

Same problem. Looks like it's been happening for many years and I haven't found a solution yet.

Hi James,

Sorry for the crash issue.

As Rick mentioned, we'd need more details to replicate the issue at our end.

  1. What are your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS)?
  2. The exact version of After Effects?
  3.  Properties of the footage you're working with.

We're here to help, just need more info.

Thanks,
Nishu

What Rick said. Use Photoshop. Refine Edges and the Key Cleaner wouldn't even do much to improve the result, given that they cannot accumulate reference data from other frames on a still image. Your workflow doesn't really make sense. That and of course Keylight is an old piece of garbage that has always been problematic. Avoid it whenever you can.

Hi Mylenium,

If l was to be using video footage, what would you recommend over Keylight for the keying process?

AE version and build, OS and system info, please. I wouldn't be surprised if you are using Catalina.

What happens if you just apply Keylight?

If I was working with a photograph I would just open it up in Photoshop and remove the background there. Save the PSD and import it as footage, merged layers. The comp will render in a lot less time and all of the workflow will be easier.

Hi Rick,

Doesn't crash if l apply just keylight 1.2

What proces would you to remove the background in Photoshop or can you link me to a guide on the process?
