Layer Emitter other than Particular?

Hi everybody,

I'm tasked with the challenge of making a floating object "gallery" (for lack of better wording) within a 3D space. One filled with an array of images that I need to fly or venture through with more in the background.

My idea is that I'd use some kind of emitter or something at least semi-procedual to create an array of these images, then just copy or multiple them within 3D camera depth so to create an illusion of a vast numbers of these images floating in a world.

I know that Particular has a Layer Emitter that might possibly lend itself to this sort of situation. But I can't get anything in the Maxon bundle right now. So I'm trying to figure out what might be a good way to set up a number of nodes/nulls (like 12-24) or some randomized series and then multiply it in a 3D space for this effect.

Does anybody have any suggestions for what they might do in this situation?  I imagine I could randomize a number of nodes within a given space without too much troubleshooting, but getting a continuing random array of layers to populate on these nodes/nulls, that's what slowing me down.

Thanks for reading! 🙂

The perceived randomness mostly depends on the number of different images, so I'm not sure what really is the problem. From AE's basic particle systems to Card Dance to simply using some random() expression on a giagzillion 3D layers anything would be possible. I'm sure there is in fact some old photo mosaic/ picture cloud tutorials from ten years ago out there on YouTube that has all the ingredients. Really depends what exactly you need. Your question is really to unspecific to understand what you're having issues with and/ or what you actually have already tried.
