Question

Letters missed when typing

Interested to hear if this is a solvable issue. I've been having an issue for a long time when typing in after effects (both in text layers and in attribute text fields) where I need to pause between each letter/number for it to recognize each keypress. Some examples: If I quickly type "questions", I may be left with "qesions" when done. Or when setting a font to 125px, I may end up with text that's actually 15px becuase it doesn't catch the 2. I could go on for a long time with particulars including pasting in attriubte fields, hitting enter after altering an attrubute value, and switching between tools, but I assume you get the picture. As far as technical details go, I'm on a 2017 iMac Pro which includes 64gb of 2666 MHz DDR4 memory, 16GB Radeon Pro Vega 64 GPU, Intel Xeon W CPU, and I'm running cc2021 Ae, but if my memory serves me correctly I've experienced this in both newer and older builds of Ae. Short of providing video of myself typing in Ae I'm not sure what example material to provide. I can try to illucidate anything that seems vague if questions come up.

Probably a combination of keyboard timing vs. screen updates. On a Mac also the system-wide spell check can be a pain in the posterior. You could at least try turning off that if you're using it as well as the input helper utility in the application bar. If you're using a third-party keyboard it may be worth digging out your original one and vice versa. Sometimes even trivial USB timing issues can be the cause of such weird delays. Some re-plugging can fix it. That also goes for other external devices. On the other end of course check anything relating to screen drawing performance. Since it has happened across multiple versions/ builds of AE I doubt it can be blamed on the code. It would also be interesting to know if this happens in other apps, Adobe or otherwise. This may offer further clues.

I appreciate the insight. It seems to be unique to Ae in my experience. I'm working from a company machine so my testing abilities are limited before reaching out to our sys admin. The keyboard is a wireless 100% from apple and it seems to perform as expected in all other applications, although not ruling that out just yet. Disabling universal spell-check also didn't seem to solve the issue, but it may help in combination with some other suggestions. Interestingly, some of my coworkers have also mentioned having the same issue, so I know it isn't just me. I appreciate your insight. I'll keep trying your suggestions as time goes on and hopefully some combination of the above will do the trick. Thanks again!
