Live Text & Import to PPro

I'm trying to create a Live Text graphic in After Effects (v14.2.1.34).

I see that in the latest version, Adobe has changed the workflow and the Export as Live Text has been eliminated.  There is now the Essential Graphics Panel.

With the Essential Graphics panel open, I drag the available layer properties (Opacity in my case) to the Panel and click Export Motion Graphics.

In PPro (11.1.1 (22)), I open the Essential Graphics window, navigate to my template and drag it onto the timeline.

In AE, the graphic starts at Opacity X%, then after a certain point fades to 0%. If I preview the composition in AE, it works fine. However, when I import the motion graphic into PPro, the opacity fade doesn't occur.  That's problem 1.  Obviously I can add opacity adjustments in PPro via Effects, but doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose of doing it in AE?  Especially if you have a multi-line graphic and want one part of it to fade off screen sooner than the other.  Or are you only able to include initial property settings in the export, then adjust as desired in PPro?

The second problem is how do you the text of the file in PPro?  What I've created is a chyron and I want to be able to change the text of it for each instance where it's pulled on screen.

Is there another, better, simpler way to create a chyron in AE, export it, import it into PPro with all of the properties included and have the text editable?

EDIT:  OK, more weirdness.  If I close and re-open the Essential Graphics panel in PPro, the title text will be editable. However, if I play through the clip and the play head goes past the chyron and I pull the playhead back to where the chyron is visible, click on the chyron video layer to activate it, then click Edit in the Essential Graphics panel, the title is no longer editable. I have to close the Essential Graphics panel and re-open it. Is this normal?

And still can't figure out the opacity issue with the opacity not adjusting properly at the end of the clip.

I also cannot find any way to dock the Essential Graphics panel. Yes, I know how you're supposed to be able to dock a panel, but it's not working.

Thanks.

Yes, Nesting layers in premiere pro works from timeline itself and can be controlled only from effects controls panel.

Every method have advantages and disadvantages of its use..Although AfterEffects Motion Template or AE project(dynamic link) in premiere pro is still a much better option to work with the motion/animations effects.

    Better is subjective, of course.

I'd agree that creating the template in AE using the Essential Graphics panel then importing that into PPro with the ability to update in AE and flow through to PPro would be great.  But that's not what we have with the EG panel.  At least not yet.  To get there, all of the available properties in AE would have to be transferable on import to PPro, including keyframes, which would allow for things like motion and opacity.

And with the addition of the new Essential Graphics panel, Adobe has made it more difficult to use the older style Motion Graphics template.  I've tried that as well and it's a bit hackneyed.

The bottom line appears to be that there isn't a good, complete solution available at the moment.  Adobe, as usual, has implemented a bunch of half-measures.

Thanks for showing interest in using the EGP. This was version 1.0 and we will be adding more features going forward.

We're looking for user feedback and would love to hear from you. Please share your feedback with the Product Management here.

    Thanks,

    Hi PhotogCda,

    Sorry for your issues!

    Problem 3:

    • Is your workspace customised?
    • Have you tried resetting the workspace?
    • If you have done that but it still didn't help, try this:
      • Navigate to Documents > Adobe > Premiere Pro and rename the 11.0 folder to OLD_11.0
      • This would reset most of your Premiere Pro customization including workspace to default settings (with an option to undo the steps incase it doesn't help)

    Hope this helps!

    Problem 1-

Keyframes (animation) are not support in Essentials Graphic Panel. It contains only static value. You can read about it more on Adobe blog on  After Effects CC (April 2017) In-Depth: Essential Graphics panel and Motion Graphics templates | Creative Cloud blog by …

See section - Using keyframes and expressions on controlled properties in Motion Graphics templates.

Incase you want the animation and want to change the source text in premiere pro than you can import the after effects project into premiere pro and use in the timeline. Note - if you want to edit the text after import the aftereffects project than you can go to Effects control panel and than select the sub tab of "Master/comp" edit the text. Screen shot for reference -

    Problem 2  -

To make the text editable inside the premiere from after effects template. You can just include the source text property of Text layer.

"If I close and re-open the Essential Graphics panel in PPro, the title text will be editable. Is this normal?"

this should not happen..when you select the motion graphics template layer in premiere pro it should be editable. Please confirm the version and OS. I have tested it on MAC premiere pro version - 2017.1.2 ver 11.0.

    Problem 3 -

You dock the essentials graphics panel in Premiere pro. Click and Drag the title of panel (Essentials Graphics) and you will be able to dock it.

Screenshot & Gif animation for Reference -

I hope this information helps you work with the Essentials Graphics panel and templates.

Re: Answer 3 - As noted I know how to dock a panel.  Or at least how it should work, it simply isn't.

Re: Answer 2 - OK, it shouldn't happen, but it is.  Versions are as noted above.  OS is Win7.  Have tried it many times and the same result every time. The Essential Graphics panel has to be closed, and re-opened to be able to edit the text of the chyron.

Re: Answer 1 - OK, so keyframes aren't supported.  That's just peachy.  Another bleep-show, half-effort from Adobe.  Yippee! Yes, importing the AE comp is possible and the text can be altered that way, but you can't put more than one instance of the same comp on the timeline as you can with the Essential Graphics tool.  If you do, changing the text changes it on all instances.  Doesn't make sense though because I have keyframes set in other parts of the comp and those work fine for motion.

Re: Note - Yes, true.  And that does work.  I can export the chyron out of AE normally, import it into PPro and the movement works as it should.  The problem, as noted earlier, with that is that you can't drop the same animation on the timeline multiple times and change each instance.  To do it that way, you'd have to edit and re-export each one as a separate graphic out of AE and import each one into PPro. Not the most efficient way to of doing things.  The other option is to build the chyron in PPro using the Essential Graphics panel.  That works and I can get the animation to work as desired.  The problem there is you can't; as far as I know, gang (parent) layers together so each element of the graphic has to have motion added separately.  You can't, for example, link text and a box the text is contained in.  You have to add movement to each element separately in the Effects Controls.  As I say, that's as far as I know.  If there is a way to link layers together like that in the PPro version of the EG panel, I'd be pleased to hear about it.

Re: The Essential Graphics panel & have to close/re-open the panel to be able to edit text, haven't tried trashing Preferences. Will try that if the problem persists.  It's still doing so today.  Although shutting down PPro and relaunching has seemed to fix the docking problem.

Re: A bug report to Adobe.... I have so little confidence in Adobe that submitting a bug report would likely be a waste of time.

As suggested by Stefan, Adobe work on the bugs and features suggested by users and keep bring new update or features into the software.

The note which i have added in my previous reply that is for Motion Graphic Template not for the normal import of AE project into Premiere Pro. So any AE layer property which have animation into it and not added in Motion Graphic Template into AE that would work fine once you import the template in Premiere pro Essential Graphics panel.  This template can be used as many times you need in the same timeline with different text/info.

your reply - you can't, for example, link text and a box the text is contained in.  You have to add movement to each element separately in the Effects Controls.

You can't link the layers for animation like you do in aftereffects but you can Nest two layers (one text layer & background graphics layer) by selecting the layers/clips and right click to nest. This will make them one layer and you can do the animation of nested layer by selecting in timeline and making the changes in effects control.

Another workaround can be that you  do the animation for one layer, than copy the layer (Ctrl+C) and paste the attributes by right clicking on another layer or using the keyboard shortcut (ctrl+alt+v) to paste the animation or effect applied to previous layer.
