LR classic not writing XMPS

I've always written XMPs for my files as a professional that moves my files around a lot. I'm working with the latest update of LR Classic on a MAC and I have the option clicked to write xmps, but nothing is working. I've tried unclicking again, I've tried restarting the program and the computer and nothing works. Anyone have any ideas?
