Major Bug Mystery with 3D camera "solve analysis failed"

I have just opened AE (23.1.0 Build 83) for the first time in a few months and I cannot get the 3D camera tracker to work anymore. It will track but it will not analyse, blue banner works fine, but always gives way to the red failure banner. I used to easily track even complicated clips with relative ease. Suddenly, I only get the red failure banner. I have the latest OS (Ventura 13.2) on a macbook pro m1x. I have made sure the comp setting match the clip settings. I use ProRes not h.264. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall, I have tried using two previous versions all with no success. I have tried a simple 2 second clip on a tripod but still it fails. I started with trying to use the same clips I used a few month ago, nope. I have tried different resolutions. I have tried every combination of variables on the 3D camera tracker itself. Not sure what changed besided a newer version of Ae and Mac OS.

Please help! I can't find anyone else suffering the same problem on any message boards or videos.

I copy/pasted the txt file but it was removed as spam. How do I attach a text file? All I see is "insert link".

Thanks for posting this @JessUnique! It appears that the tracking process is finishing without an explicit failure (according to the log) so there must be something happening within After Effects itself. Do you receive any error messages when attempting to run camera tracking or only the banner on the footage?

A couple of other things to try:

  • Check what permissions are given to After Effects in System Preferences > Privacy & Security.
  • Try restarting the system, if you haven't already
  • Try from a different user account

Thanks again,

Hi John,

Problem appears to be fixed! I do believe it was the system preferences needing permission to access removeable volumes. It must have automatically taken that permission away at some point during all the updating. Thank you so much for your help!!

Hi @JessUnique,

Thank you for reporting this issue. Would you mind sharing an application log with us to help with the investigation of this issue? To enable application logging:

  1. Select "Enable Logging" from the Help menu and quit/relaunch After Effects as prompted.
  2. Attempt to analyze a clip with the 3D Camera Tracker
  3. Open the General section of the Preferences and click "Reveal Preferences in Finder"
  4. Open the "logs" folder revealed in the Finder

Please share the "AnalysisSelfLink Log.txt" files with us, along with the "After Effects Log.txt" file.

Thanks again for reporting this issue and for any further information you can provide,
