Birds and flock of birds animated with ELEMENT 3D in After Effects - YouTube

I found this video made in 2013 which prove me it is possible to use the particle options to animate a 3D bird via E3D in After Effects. I know it is possible with Trapcode particular but I need the flexibiliy and the realism offered by a 3D animated model I want to buy in a model bank.

Can someone help me to find how to do it? Thanks so much by advance.

    You're welcome

There's a video at the bottom of that page that shows the basic workflow described.  Maybe that will be clearer than the written instructions.   But yes, you will need to work out how to get the . obj sequence

I think you need to import an .obj sequence & maybe bake it or somehting?  I didn't read all of the intructions

provided in the E3D user guide which I pasted a link to below.

After getting the animated model in I'd try to use the particle replicator to scatter the birds and the E3D transform.

Do 2 or 3 groups and tweak the settings a bit on each so all your birds are not moving in perfect unison

Here's the instruction I found in the E3D help by typing into google:  "using animated models or files in element 3d"

Thanks very much for those ideas, Paul. I couldn't trace these instructions.

I just have now to make sure there is a .obj sequence in the package I will buy.

As I don't use 3D softwares, I don't know how to make one myself with the model
