Making Mr. Mercury Liquid Follow a Path

Right now this Mr. Mercury solid is running downward. Is there a way to make it follow a particular path? (In this case, making the green stuff run down the back of the throat?)

Just add a distortion effect like Mesh Warp and make adjustments. Mesh Warp, Liquify --- Your choice.

The effect itself does not offer any path tools. If you want that, you have to use other particle systems. As Rick said you can kinda clutz it together with distortion effects, but personally I would do it differently and not even use Mr. Mercury. Seems a lot of effort for nothing.

If you like Mr Mercury and it fits the design it's ok. Trapcode Particular would be a good 3rd party choice. The options depend on what 3rd party effects you have purchased or how much experimentation you want to do with AE's suite of effects.

Although you can't animate it on a path you can animate and control the direction that it travels. If you choose Directional as the Animation system. change the Direction value to 90 degrees and then play around with velocity and gravity to get the result you need. Also, to help gain control over the direction, reduce the Extra value to 0.
