I was looking at some effect tutorials and was thinking:

what do you use minimax (in Channels) for.

Most of these channel effects are very poorly covert.

If there is a good Blog or explanation for this effect or the complete "group"

of effects I would appriciate it.

Adobe could expand on this, but here's the online documenation for Effects included with After Effects:

From a technical aspect, the Minimax effect looks at each pixel and forces it to become either the minimum- or maxi-
mum value of the pixels in a specifi ed radius. In layman's terms, the Minimax effect is typically used to expand or contract the edges of a layer. This can be helpful in polishing up keyed footage, removing strokes, cleaning up noisy edges, and other such purposes. Some people also use Minimax for producing creative effects, in the same way that you might use an effect in the Stylize category. It can be used to enhance the size of reflections or for generating spectacular highlights using the Maximum operation. Alternatively, it can be used to create a painted effect.
