Hello,

i just had a crash disk few days ago.

it started to be really slow, so i decided to make a quick back up of a AE projet that i was working on.

it was very long, and the back up crash before the end.

So today, i have a copy of the projet file, but i haven't all the source files.

the cache directory was on another hard drive, so i was asking myself, is there any way to get get back source file, maybe copied in the cache ?

in the cache directory, there's many folders and files that i don't how to use, but can someone help me ?

Please see the screeshot below, here's what my cache folder actually looks like.

My hard drive who crashed will maybe never be back so i really need help..!

Kind regards

Romain

The cache files are not duplicates of source files, they are dumped buffers of a given frame or preview segment, meaning they show the already processed state. I'm sure the developers have an internal tool to decode and view them, but beyond that they don't solve anything for you.

In short, you're hosed.  Just like you're hosed with every other file on that disk.

Your only alternative: take the machine to someone for file recovery, a very pricey thing indeed.

Disk recovery is your only option by now - and don't even think of trying one of the free tools, paid tools or anything you find online somewhere.

Don't try anything but going to a data recovery center with good reputation, pay the price and cross fingers.

That's sadly the outcome of saving 100 bucks for a 2nd drive and 15 minutes time for setting up an auto-backup batch.

Good luck - honestly!
