If part of the element being tracked goes off screen, it's usually better to switch over to Mocha AE.

After Effects includes the Mocha AE plug-in from Boris FX, which is GPU-accelerated, and Multi-Frame Rendering supported. Use the plug-in to work with complex tracking shots such as shots with motion blur or objects that move off-screen. It displays in the Essentials workspace by default and contains the basic functionalities. To use the advanced features, such as AdjustTrack, select Workspace > Classic after you launch Mocha AE. To learn more about these features, watch this video.

To use Mocha AE:

  1. Select a footage layer in your composition and select Effect > Boris FX Mocha > Mocha AE
  2. Click the Mocha logo in the Effect Controls panel to launch the user interface.

OR

Apply Mocha AE after you select a layer in your composition by selecting Animation > Track in Boris FX Mocha.
