mp4 file after export all black

Hi there, I’m a beginner at after effects and trying to export my first animation. Well, thanks to a few tutorials every thing worked out and seemed to be fine until I opened my mp4 file. It was all black and nothing happened. It lasts the exact time, my animation should last, but you can’t see anything. I rendered it using media encoder, I checked that I’ve got the correct composition and the right working areas. Does anybody know what the problem is?

Thank you!

Correct answer britta_

Sorry for the delay in response, Britta.

Is it happening to all the projects? What are your system specifications (CPU, GPU, RAM, OS)? Also, please share a screenshot of the Composition that you're trying to export.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Nishu

Hi Nishu,

thanks again for your response - and I'm sorry, too because I found the veeeeery basic msitake: I simply forgot to add a new colour level and then I exported a black animation on a black background... I thought it would be transparent so that was the last thing I could image. Well, lesson learned.. 😄

So, everything is working fine and thank you so much again for your help!

Britta

Hi Britta5E26,

Welcome to the Community and sorry for your issue. Would you mind sharing a screenshot of the export settings from Media Encoder? Also, have you tried exporting it using After Effects? What happens if you switch the renderer to Software Only in Media Encoder and export?

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Nishu

Hi Nishu,

thanks a lot for your reply. Sure, here comes the screenshot (hm, it’s in German, I hope that is alright?). I tried exporting it with after effects, but that didnt work either. Quicktime says, it’s not able to open the .mov file.. When I switch to Software Only in media encoder, it’s the same result: an all black mp4 file.

Thanks again,

Britta
