.mp4 not working at all

After effects can't seem to handle its own .mp4 that has been rendered through encoder. I bring it back into after effects for a quick render if required on big project, but it just crashes after effects, then if I manage to get a render its just a corrupt file. any thoughts on this. it seems to treat it like an unknown file type, after it has just rendered it

Working on a really long project and quick renders for previs would be great other wise I have to do the whole 2 hour render just for a sfx update.

Thanks

I'm not saying that After Effects should not crash when you bring in an MP4 but I am saying that MP4 is just about the worst choice you can make if you plan on using the file again in your production. MP4 is a delivery format, not a production format, it uses an algorithm scheme called Inter-frame compression that calculates pixel values based on surrounding frames you at best one out of every four frames actually contain the original data, it takes CPU power to decode, when an MP4 is re-compressed color, compression, and even luminance artifacts are more pronounced and the quality goes down. You should only be using MP4 files for delivery of the final product to the consumer.

That said if your system is up to date and meets the minimum system requirements, and this happens every time you should file a bug report.

Thanks Rick yes, my system goes beyond the recommend spec, its one of the best work stations on the market we even do 3d. It was just a way to show client a quick change, we deliver mp4

Thing is I have done this in the past no problem, its only on one project alone that I cannot bring it in and just make a quick edit to send back.

I just want a quick way to not have to sit through a render again for a small change. used to work now it doesn't.

    Many thanks Rick
