Multi colour grid transition

Hi

I am trying to create a transition based on a multi colour grid. I would like to have the cells of the grid randomly animate either opacity or scale so that they create a transition between two images or pieces of footage.

I have created the artwork in illustrator but would recreate this in AE if needed.

Thanks

I saw your post yesterday and the artwork threw me a little.  I was hoping someone else would jump on and explain.

Looking at your question, you can achieve a transition using, either:

  1. Block Dissolve.  (with Soft Edges unchecked and a width and height of around 20-30.
  2. Gradient Wipe - with the grid you have created as the gradient.  It turns off parts of the image based on the darkest parts of the gradient first.
  3. To animate scale, you might be best looking at Card Dance, maybe?

Hopefully that answers your question, but if not, can you explain a little more?

@ShiveringCactus Thanks for suggestions, I was able to use block disolve, aligning the block sizes with the grid size in my graphic, to achieve the effect i was going for.
Many thanks
