Music sluggish or just plain distorted on After Effects - Need Help

Hi,

So I'm trying to make a 45 sec kinetic type movie and whenever I play my music it plays sluggish and distorted. How can I fix this?

What I've tried:
- Cutting the song to the part I want, to reduce the file size (didn't work)

- Tried .wav .aiff quicktime .mp4 formats for the song (didn't work)

- Purged (didn't work)
- Messed with the preferences in AE (like increasing the GPU and lowering memory)

When I double click the song and it opens next to the composition it sounds prefect, but once I go back to the main composition it is sluggish.

Please any advice would be great.

I have a pc and AE CC 2017.

How are you previewing?  Can you scrub the audio -- does that work okay?

Hi Dave and MyLenium

I attached screenshots of the settings I have for memory and preview and my composition. Details about the music files: no bigger than 8.8 MB. I haven't made an edits or effects to the music file besides cutting to the set of lyrics that I want playing. I only want the music to play as the type appears. Scrubbing works fine.

I see you have some mp3 files in the timeline.  They could be mucking things up.  There are many varities of mp3, and AE doesn't play nicely with all of the.  Convert your mp3's to aiffs using Audition or Adobe Media Encoder, use them to replace the mp3's and see if there's a difference.

You have not told us anything useful like actual comp settings, preview settings, sample rates of your audio files and how it is used in the comp. Just saying that something is wrong is of no use.
