New Ae Tutorial: Blockify your Ae Shapes with this Expression

 The Blockify iExpression traces any path in After Effects by using only horizontal and vertical lines. The result is a blocky version of the original shape. You can change the number of lines used to create a more or less blocky result and you can also animate this over time. Some noise parameters allow for more variation and give you full control and creative freedom.

The results created by this expression are similar to the Mosaic effect of After Effects. But since the expression calculates a shape path instead of an image, the result is still a native Ae path that is resolution independent and that you can manipulate with shape repeaters, for example.
