I tried using a previous version of After Effects, and then reinstalling the latest version 24.2.1. It doesn't work in either.
I can create a 'New Composition from Footage', but not from 'New Composition' which is what I want.
I click OK and nothing happens. Clicking Cancel doesn't do anything either. I have to use X in the top right corner to get rid of the create new composition window.
I run AE on Windows 11 - 64GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 5000, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050.
I'd appreciate some help with this. Thanks.
The issue is resolved.
Thanks to nishu_kush and Rick Gerard for your help.
In the end it looks like the last windows 11 update had something to do with it. I rolled it back and was able to create New Composition. I then reinstalled the update and I can still create New Composition, so all is good again.
Thank you!

Are you able to create a new composition by clicking the menu Composition > New Composition? Try running After Effects in Safe Mode. Here's how: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects-discussions/how-to-troubleshoot-startup-issues-in-after...
If Safe Mode works, resetting the preferences should help.
Report back.

Nishu

Thanks for your feedback, Nishu.
No, New Composition from the menu doesn't work either.
Yes, I tried safe mode but the issue remained. I also reset preferences. and cleared cache.
The only time it does work is in an existing project with a composition already in it (created from footage)
But in a new project it just won't play.

Are there any third-party plug-ins installed? Can you try running After Effects as an administrator and see if that helps? If it doesn't, try installing an older version of the GPU driver if you're using the latest one.
Let us know.
Thanks,
Nishu

Check and make sure that the Composition Settings/3D Renderer is set to Classic 3D.
You should also check your Preferences and possibly reset them.

Hi Rick.
Yes, 3D Renderer is set to Classic 3D
l've also checked through my preferences more than once but can't see anything in there that would cause this issue. I reset them twice but nothing solved.
