New text appears stretched

When I use the Type tool to insert text, the letters appear distorted. They look "tall" as if they have been stretched. I can't seem to work out why this is happening, all of the character settings seem normal and I've tried reseting the character but to no avail. I have just updated to the latest version of AE (16.1.0).

Hope you can help! Thanks!

A guess:

Check your composition settings > Basic tab > Pixel Aspect Ratio. Is that set to 'Square pixels' ?

If not - you'll need to give us more of a clue...

Hi, I am having the same issue as liamw10085793. Pixel Aspect Ratio is set to square pixels... I also tried Reset Character, to no avail. Any advice on how to fix the text appearance?

Check the Character Panel, if needed Reset it. If you don't know how check the user guide using AE's Search Help field in the very top right corner of the app or poke around in the Character Panel until you find the option.

As Mike said, check your composition settings. There is almost never a reason for anyone not working with anamorphic original footage or delivering product to a major studio preparing an anamorphic production to create or use non-square pixel frame sizes or comp settings. If you are using non-square pixel formats you had better be an expert in the format. They went away many years ago and media players don't deal with them well so the audience is extremely limited.
