Not rendering and flash drive not full

I just bought a brand new flash drive 256 gb at Micro Center because I don't have enough storage on my computer. I've been trying to render this composition for a week now and it keeps saying an error that my flash drive/disk is full. It is completely blank, brand new nothing on it or that it may be corrupt. I don't know what to do or why it won't render. The composition is a little over 15 minutes and says it'll take over 3 hours to render.

    You are rendering to an USB flash drive? What?! Those drives are faulty and slow as hell.

    Get enough free space on your internal drive - at least, get an external HDD / SDD.

     

    Rendering a 15 minutes comp is very heavy, as Rick pointed out. And you rendered it as uncompressed AVI, which created very, very, very, very large video files.

    You can render this through AME (Adobe Media Encoder) to a useful formal like MP4 / H264. But this is not recommended. You better render into image sequence - reimport this after rendering - and export this in your desired video format. Advantage of image sequence is, that your computer can die during rendering, without loosing any process. Makes sense on a 15 minutes comp.

    The reason why I'm rendering to a flash drive is because I don't have space on my internal drive...that's why I thought of a flash drive. I don't have money for an external hard drive. The 256 gb at Micro Center only cost me $23 because it was on sale...

    The flash drive is dying, because uncompressed AVI creates more data/s than it can handle.

     

    I don't mind that you are trying to archive, but lower the data amount if you need to render to this drive. Try MP4/H264, try image sequence. Try to sequence your video into smalles pieces. Be aware, that you are going to render large amounts of data to a shi**y flash drive. Make it as easy for the drive as possible.

    Fifteen-minute comp = you are probably not using the right tool. AE is visual effects and compositing app not intended or designed to edit video. 3 hours could be completely normal. My average comp is under seven seconds and one shot. Some of those seven-second comps have a couple of dozen nested comps (pre-comps) and thirty or forty layers. I can see render times of several seconds a frame. I know it is time to redesign the composite or motion graphic when the render is taking longer than three or four minutes a frame.

     

    Workflow details and a full screenshot showing at least the effects you have applied to your layers (e) or the modified properties (uu) would help, but I'm guessing that this would be completely normal for a moderate system and an HD comp at 29.97 fps.

    I didn't edit video. I first made two compositions and then imported video and tried to render the whole thing as one. I'll try to screenshot what I have if that makes it easier

    That is editing. If you want to combine two clips you can use Movie Maker or Premiere Pro and render the entire thing in a few minutes. AE is 100% the wrong tool for a project like this:

    Please provide much more information. Post your computer specifications including CPU, GPU, RAM, hard drive capacity etc. How is your "flash drive" connected to your system?

     

    What is the resolution and frame rate of your composition? Are you defining your new drive as the render destination? What format and codec are you rendering to? What happens if you render just 30 seconds of your 15 minute file?

     

    If you use inappropriate render settings you could easily exceed 256gb with one 15 minute file.

    I'm not savvy with effects or premiere or anything really. This is the first time I'm really delving deeper into them, so I don't really understand how to do it. From what I tried to tinker around with, effects doesn't let me change the format to anything, but avi. I use usb A flash drives. I don't know where to find my computer specifications, but I'm running windows 10 with intel core i7 I believe. It's a surface book 2 if that helps. The rendering stops when the composition gets to about 3.5 minutes
