Hi dexterc81659392

I haven't seen this one yet. Sorry to hear that you're crashing.

Please send us a crash report if you haven't already. More info here:https://helpx.adobe.com/in/x-productkb/multi/submit-crash-reports-digital-video-applications.html

Let's look if After Effects has created crash logs on your machine:https://community.adobe.com/t5/After-Effects/FAQ-How-to-find-After-Effects-crash-logs-on-your-computer/td-p/10333124

If you can find crash logs, please share them with us so that we can get them checked by an engineer.

Meanwhile, try the following steps:

  • Close all Adobe apps
  • Navigate to Documents > Adobe
  • Rename the After Effects 2020 folder to OLD_After Effects 2020
  • Launch After Effects

Let us know if you still run into the same issue.

Thanks,

Rameez

Hey there! So I'm going to try to be as precise as I can with this despite me not having much to go off of.
I edit gaming videos for a few YouTubers and overall for the last few years I've never had a major issue with AE or Premiere. Randomly about 2 hours ago though I hit space bar, as one does, to preview what I was working on (nothing crazy just a video and some audio it was not a big project yet) and no video popped up but the audio played and the red line was going through the composition as if it was previewing it.
I thought okay it is just a minor glitch so I opened and closed AE and it still did it. Tried restarting my computer, still did it. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling AE, still did it. Tried updating to the newest version of AE 2020, still is doing it. I've opened up new projects and went back to old ones and it does it literally everywhere.
I looked up fixes but I can't find anything that is telling me to do anything differently than what I've tried. The adobe cleaner also did nothing.
I am on a bit of a deadline and would appreciate any help or info, I tried to talk to an Adobe representative and they said they're backed up at the moment and time is of the essence. Thank you!

Have a look at the preview panel and see the settings there. Maybe you just switched of video in the spacebar settings.

Hi everyone!
Well, I've done the update of all of my Adobe suite softwares, everything works well, except of After Effects. Indeed, when I try to open it, I receive an error message (take a look on the following photo).

"After Effects: (Failed to create directory) : / Users / MacBookProNora / Library / Preferences / Adobe / After Effects / 17.0 / OriginalWorkspace". Check the protection or permissions of the parent directory."

Even if I unstalled and installed it again, the issue isn't solved. I don't know what to do and it's really problematic as After Effects is my work tool in daily life.

Would you have an idea about this problem's cause and how can I solve it?

PS: I like to precise that I've already checked out if I have authorizations for using After Effects in the Adobe file, so I don't think it's comes from this...

Thanks in advance.

Can you let me know what OS you're using? If it's macOS 15 (Catalina), it's possible the permission required by the OS aren't in place.

Hello so I have a problem in after effects. Whenever I preview my edit the video is blurry. (I didn't render it yet) but I have it on full. If I put it on third, half, or quarter the picture is blurry. Like the picture on full is fine when the video is paused but when its not paused and it plays then the pictures are blurry. The setting full is the clearest when the video is paused. I dont want my video to be blurry, please help 😞

check you preview panel settings, make sure it's set to auto. this means that your preview resolution will match the composition resolution.

Hello there,
I have seen some great tips on how to scale, both using the file>script>Demo palette/Scale Comp and using continously rasterize.
My issue is that I'm having a comp with lots of 3D layers, covering a foreground, midground and background.
This background is much smaller on the foreground due to perspective, giving me very little use of the HD width.
I tried to take the background into a new HD comp and scale with script> scale comp, Null etc, but it gets just very blurry. If I use Continiously Rasterize it messes up all the lighting and camera.

Is there way to scale up in After Effects, where I can have all my 3D layers and scene looking intact, but benefiting from the assets being vectors and therefore can scale up?

Any Direction would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Dan

Not really. You have basically reached an impass where you hit a wall in AE's intelligence (or lack thereof, TBH) due to how you are combining stuff and features that are double- and triple-loaded with functionality (meaning all that CR/ CT stuff vs. 3D). It might be a more efficient use of your time to resize the background image in Photoshop e.g. using the AI-based content-aware image resize and then a bit of manual tweaking.

A large AE2019 Project (with a lot of timeline windows tabbed), crashed as soon as it was loaded in 2020.

Tried a lot, finally this worked:

I created a new project, imported the old project, dragged it out of the folder and continued with this 'fresh' copy.

I made this post back in april:  https://community.adobe.com/t5/After-Effects/Mercury-Transmit-Video-Preview-Bug/m-p/10673570#M94325

I had been experiencing the bug for months and months but that was my first post about it.  For almost a year, the mercury transmit feature has been broken in After Effects and Premiere.  This is a crucial feature especially at work when needing to preview works in progress to a group, or as a means to view what your output looks like on a 4k screen or any other monitor.  I was hoping this would be patched out by now but with 2020 released it is STILL not fixed.  It just crashes premiere immediately if I try to enable it and it freezes After Effects.  I'm extremely dissappointed that this feature has remained broken this long. Am I just unlucky or is this broken for anyone else? This bug is present on both AMD and Nvidia systems, as I've checked on several systems to confirm that it is broken.  What gives?

Hi Locomotive,

Sorry that you are crashing. Have you seen the Crash Reporter dialog pop up after/when the crashes happen?

If so submitting a report with an attached email would be very helpful. There's a good chance the crash report could provide us with the detail we need to determine why it is crashing and potentially fix the issue.

We do actively look at incoming crash reports.

Thanks,

Jamie

Appreciate the response. The program usualy blips out of existence with no popup or it freezes to the point that I have to force quit the application with no pop up either. Or the screen that the image is supposed to show up on just turns black and the pciture won't show up until I quit the application. There have been occasions a popup has shown up and I have submitted a detailed report several times. I have submitted a handful of bug reports over the past year to every avenue that Adobe offers to no avail. This has been such a frustrating and ongoing issue that I can't fathom spending another 30 minutes of my work day filling out yet another comprehensive bug report all over again for nothing to ever happen. The issue started on a computer built with an Nvidia GPU and remained present with an entirely new computer using an AMD GPU. All built specifically for After Effects. I have even tested this on coworkers computers and laptops. I really don't know what more I can do. I've been using After Effects for 13 years and I'm certain I've tried everything within reason.

Good day, creatives.

I'm having a problem with my After Effects 2020 after updating from CC 2019.

I have a workspace saved to maximize window as default. But whenever I open AE again, it reverts to a default non-full screen size.

How do I fix this? Is there a problem in the settings files?

Attached is the workspace I saved (fullscreen) and the windows size whenever I open After Effects.

Hey there! You're not alone in wanting the app to stay maximized when you maximize it. We're tracking a bug on this. Any info you can provide about your setup can help us figure out what's going on. Did you import your prefs from a previous version of AE?

Hi Victoria,

Yes, I did import my settings from my previous version of AE. Currently using in on Windows 10 v1909

I'm hoping someone can find the solution for this 😞

Hello, I am developing an effect using after effects sdk. I have a video, and in my effect I want this video to overlap with the video submitted by the user. Are there any tools for loading my video into the code and further work with it? And also, how can i store my video in .prm file or smth like that

This question is hard to understand. Are you asking if we can decode your video in the effect? If you can reclarify the question, we can do better to answer your question. Thanks! --Michelle

I'm trying to find the matchname for the new dropdown menu. I can't seem to find any documentation on where to find it (like how the matchName for slider controls "Slider" is "ADBE Slider Control-0001").

Examples:

- effect("Slider Control")("Slider"); == effect("Slider Control")("ADBE Slider Control-0001");

- effect("Dropdown Menu Control")("Menu"); == effect("Dropdown Menu Control")("???????????");

I tried just renaming it ("Menu" to "ADBE Menu"), but that threw an error. Then I went through a few other variants with no luck ("ADBE-Menu," "ADBE Menu Control," and "ADBE Menu Control-0001").

So then I tried using a bit of ExtendScript to find the name:
var matchName = app.project.activeItem.layer(1).effect("Menu").matchName; alert(matchName);

But that returned a weird Pseudo effect (Pseudo/@@idZWVuvPSc X9B4Ja6ne4w).

So just want to know what the correct matchname for the new dropdown menu controllers.

Thanks in advance!!!

I believe it's a known issue that scripting doesn't have full access to expression dropdown menus yet.

Darn. But what about for mogrts that use it? Do you think 'effect("Dropdown Menu Control")("Menu");' would break in a different language?
