Hi After Effects Community!

 

What an exciting start to November we’ve had at Adobe with the recent release of After Effects 17.0 and the 2019 MAX conference!  With the recent update, I’m sure there are many questions around After Effects 17.0 features, updates, performance improvements and what’s coming down the line for future After Effects releases. 

 

Well, here’s your chance to get all your questions answered by the very team who works to create the magic in After Effects! Starting at 10 am on Wednesday, November 13, we’ll have Victoria Nece and other After Effects team members on hand to answer any and all After Effects questions right here, LIVE! Victoria Nece - Senior Product Manager, After Effects

Victoria Nece is the Senior Product Manager for Motion Graphics and Visual Effects at Adobe, with After Effects as her primary focus. She has also played key roles in bringing Character Animator and Motion Graphics templates to market. Before joining Adobe, she was a motion designer for over a decade, as well as a developer of extensions for After Effects. As Director of Animation at the Documentary Group, she oversaw graphics for broadcast, theatrical and educational productions. As a developer, Victoria designed systems for motion capture animation and created tools used in Hollywood films.

    Hi SKZai,

    Can you help us understand what is not working when you try to edit an expression? Do you have steps that you're trying to follow that aren't working?

    every time i open ae i get this message (file attached). and afterwards the file is always corrupted. i'm not worried about my file because i have autosave at 1 minute, but i want to know why it keeps deleting the preferance file or whatever it is.

    I have a thought this issue may be due to a Script or Extension. Please list the scripts and extensions you've installed.

    Why is the transform>position array value the only value with a "separate dimensions" option? That would be so useful for every property! It would save me so much time.

    Hi Basstaster,

    Great question! The Position property is unique in that it exists as 4 properties: a single combined Position property with 3 values, and as separate X, Y, and Z Position properties. When "Separate Dimensions" is enabled, the combined Position property is hidden and the 2 or 3 separated properties are shown instead. The same is true when the layer is changed from 2D to 3D; the Z Position is shown or hidden depending on the 3D switch. These additional properties are not currently added for other properties.

     

    Enabling this same command and added properties for all the other properties is a great feature request. You can add your vote to After Effects' UserVoice here: https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911311-after-effects/suggestions/37622269-separate-position-dimensions-for-every-property

     

    Additionally, there is an included preset for "Separate XYZ Position" which provides an expression and an effect control which you can then copy over to any other positional property to split the dimensions and keyframe them separately. Let me know if you'd like more details on using the preset.

      I just updated to After Effects CC2020, and now the keyboard shortcuts to jump to the layer in and out points (hitting i or o on the keyboard) don't work anymore, on both my Windows 10 machines. On a friend's Mac the i still jumps to the in-point, but o opens a small window for the opacity.

      The shortcuts do appear in the keyboard setting page, and even if I exchange i and o with shift+i and shift+o (or the alt key) and save this as a custom keyboard layout it won't work. I also tried alt+0, just to see if a different key might work, but with the same result, it just won't jump to neither the in nor the out point, which is very inconvenient.

       

      Anyone else experiencing this problem?

      We are aware of this issue and will have a fix for the upcoming patch update.

        After updating to AE 2020, I'm getting an error message every time I open AE that says

        "After Effects 2020 Unsupported Video Driver" regarding my built in Intel graphic card.

        I did follow the instructions on how to fix that message by updating my intel graphic card, but the message still appears

         

        Any advice?

        Mam ten sam problem, posiadam kartę graficzną Nvidia GTX 560Ti która maksymalnie wspierana jest przez sterownik 391.5

        Najnowsza wersja AE2020 pewnie w większym stopniu korzysta z karty graficznej.

         

        Pod tym linkiem https://helpx.adobe.com/pl/after-effects/using/basics-gpu-after-effects.html jest informacja:

        "Adobe strongly recommends updating to NVIDIA driver 430.86 or later when using After Effects.  Drivers prior to this have a known issue which can lead to a crash."

         

        Chyba czas na zmianę karty graficznej ;(

        Golebiowski, very old GPU you have there. I believe it's obsolete, and that is why you are likely facing issues.

        How to fix this annoying bug every time I’m clicking on my videos to transfer that to other folders It always get freezing lags. This happen just after I install & used trial versions from adobe after effects, media encoder, photoshop etc. I’m really afraid that my windows might corrupt I have a lot of saves here anytime it can strike my pc! Please question/answer me as many as you could in order to help me this annoying bug from Adobes features!

        This is some of my pc specifications

        I cant send the display specifications from my dxdiag.. My 2nd photo got this annoying bug from your website again!

         

        I add some files before & through using Adobe features that may cause some conflict or virus but I dont know if this is allowed here to send 3rd party websites. I cant send it unless you request me.

         


        I already uninstall my vegas pro 16.0 this one is
        pirated and the following these from adobe features original:

        photoshop
        illustrator
        after effects
        audition
        media encoder
        prelude
        adobe acrobat DC

         

        And useless still the same! Everytime I right click in my videos & even pictures it gets freeze hang then say not responding my pirated vegas pro 16.0 is better it didnt have this kind of annoying bug that will freeze & hang if I right click in videos & pictures. Unlike these horrible adobe features. Im not running vegas pro 16.0 same time with adobe affter effects. Why this problem happens thats really weird?..

         

        I'm not well in english essays specially its deep meaning conclusions.
        give me the troubleshoot how to fix the bug specify it every single procedures one by one or send me a video troubleshoot links?

        Whenever I click on an expression to edit it, I get a huge dialog box with a massive blinking cursor and nothing else. I've tried going into the expression editor preferences and changing the font size but it makes no difference, I cannot even see the demo text in the small syntax box in order to adjust the theme color preferences for the editor font. All I see there is a large blinking cursor as well and nothing else.

         

        I have already restarted the program, restarted my computer, done a fresh install of the program, and nothing seems to make any difference.

        What version of After Effects are you using? There was a known issue with this in AE 2019 that should be fixed in the most recent patches or in AE 2020.

        I'm using AE 17.0, the latest version. Yes I already tried rolling back to 16.1.3. Yes my graphic drivers are updated. Yes I cleared my preferences in case they were corrupted. In fact, I already did a screenshare session with an adobe specialist who could not figure out what was causing the issue and escalated my case to the senior team. I'm currently waiting to hear back from them about it.

        Im having issues with the wrong mouth layers showing up when I add the correct keyframes.

         

        I have tried Purging the memory but this only works if I choose the keyframe that needs to be corrected, only to come up again a minute later. I also tried clearing my disk cache to only get the same results.

         

        I thought that having my Mac using APFS filing system might be the problem since my friend who has his set to Extended Journal had no issues but I can't verify this.

         

        I usually do the lip sync as usual by alt + ], Sequence layers, Time remapping, and Toggle switch.

         

        Any help is greatly appreicated.

        what ae version? make sure it's the latest update to the release you are using, make sure your compositions frame rate matches in the lip sync precomp and master comp. is this a new issue for you? try to isolate it as much as you can and see if you can send a project file.

          all frame rates match including the duration.

           

          i have been having this issue for quite some time.

           

          im using ae 2019.

           

          to go more into detail, when I have added all the mouths, some of the mouths doubled in the precomp. For example,

          the o and the t are the same. If I move the scrub, both mouths are the same even though in the precomp mouth different layers. Not until I have selected that keyframe that is show incorrectly and do a purge all memory does it correct itself. In which after a few minutes starts to do it again.

           

          hope this makes sense.

          Any suggestions on how to resolve this?  I have no idea if MWRecord.prm is an Adobe Plugin or from some other 3rd party, I only know I have NOT installed any 3rd party plugins.

          EDIT: Premiere Pro has no problem loading this prm, no errors, so the issue appears to be an AE bug.  Also tested with AE version 17.0.0 (Build 557) and getting the same error.

          Hi Rob, 

           

          Navigate to the path that is shown in the screenshot and move any plugins to the desktop temporarily. Then try launching After Effects again.

          New Mackbook Pro and I'm getting crashes on both versions making it at the moment unusable. All I'm doing is clicking around menus and doing normal things and then it just shuts off and crashes. 

          I'd have thought given the time since the release of Catalina along with the brand new release of 2020 that it would at least work in the most basic sense. 

          Anyone else having the same problem? Am I going to have to keep using my old slow computer instead of my shiny new one simply because of this?

          Unfortunately due to the timing of Catalina's release and AE's 2020 release, we weren't able to fix all known issues for Catalina in AE 2020. The patch we are working on currently should bring better compatibility with Catalina. A couple of known issues are the color picker not working, comp memory purging. Neither of those sound like your issue, so please ensure you send the crash reports and that'll help us uncover what might be happening.
