The issue likely comes down to a missing camera or incorrect setup. In After Effects, simply converting layers to 3D won't create the parallax effect unless there's a camera layer in the composition. Without a camera, moving layers in 3D space won't visually affect their size or depth. To fix this, start by adding a camera to your composition by going to Layer > New > Camera, and choose a preset like 35mm. Once the camera is added, moving your 3D layers along the Z-axis (the third number in the Position property) will begin to show the parallax effect objects closer to the camera will appear larger, and those farther will appear smaller.

Also, double-check that each image layer has the 3D switch enabled (look for the cube icon in the timeline panel). If any of your layers are still 2D or if 2D layers are placed between 3D layers, that could interfere with proper 3D rendering. Another common issue arises when using precompositions if your images are inside a precomp, make sure the precomp is also set to 3D and configured correctly. Additionally, using the Unified Camera Tool (press “C” to toggle camera tools) allows you to zoom, orbit, and pan around your scene, helping you observe the 3D layout and ensure the parallax effect is working. You should also ensure your anchor points and scaling are properly set so that each layer behaves as expected in 3D space.
