Question

Particular + Echo Taking Way Too Long to Render

Hey everyone,

I’m running into a pretty time consuming rendering issue and wanted to ask if anyone has dealt with something similar before.

I have an particle effect that uses Trapcode Particular combined with Echo to create particle trails. The look is perfect, but the render times are absolutely insane. For example 2 minute 16 seconds of a footage takes about whooping 3 hours to render sometimes even longer.

Here it is basically how it looks like:

Particle trails created by increasing Wind in Particular, and Echo is what makes them dotted like this.

I tried pre-rendering the particles first and then applying Echo, but it doesn’t produce the same result. I also tested alternatives like CC Time Blend etc. but none of them matched Echo’s look either.

Are there any tricks to make Echo faster with particle systems? or is there any plugin that behaves like Echo but renders faster?

For the record I’ve also tested the same project on friends systems (i have GTX 1650 Ti, they have RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 4060) and the render times were basically same, painfully slow.

Any advice or alternative workflows would be greatly appreciated!

If the Particular part of your animation is in a nested Comp, you can Render a High Quality with alpha Comp Proxy.  With that pre-rendered, you'll only have the Echo render time to wait for.

That, or a newer, faster CPU.

Depending on how many cores your current system has, upgrading to a new version of Ae with Mutliframe Rendering can offer a very good speed boost, but you'd also have to upgrade to tbe MFR version of Particular.

I forgot to mention i use Adobe After Effects 2022, exporting .mov with Apple ProRes Proxy. One of my friend exported .mp4 on Adobe After Effects 2025
