PC vs Mac for video editing
Hi!
Apologizing in advance if this was posted before (I'm sure it has been, but I spent quite some time searching and haven't found what I'm looking for).
I recently completed a video editing course to help me advance my editing skills using premiere pro and after effects. Taking on small, freelance jobs for now but had to turn some down because my PC is way too old (about 7 years) to handle anything more than very basic editing. I'm searching and researching everywhere possible for the best computer to suit my needs, and while I know there are MANY different options and opinions out there, right now it all boils down to 2 things for me: switch to Mac, or stay with a PC? My computer needs are pretty simple; right now, my programs either keep freezing or crashing, render times for any sort of effect are excruciatingly long, and exporting is a nightmare! I need a computer that simply won't do all that stuff. I need it to work without crashing, have minimal render times and allow me to rotoscope on AE without waiting an hour for it to render each frame (I'm not exaggerating).
I was told by a family friend who owns a video editing company that Mac is the way to go-they last a long time (he has his for 10 years), Apple offers free support and they're basically built for creatives. On the flip side, I'm seeing posts from other professionals here that they switched out their Macs for a custom-built PC and are very happy with the results. I've looked into different PC builds, but it seems that parts are hard to come by cheap these days. Mac seems to be the easiest option, but is it the best? I want to do this right and I'm willing to spend up to $2500 for a machine that will do what I need it to do for a long time.
For those of you still reading my ramblings, (my sincerest thanks to you, and) what are your thoughts?
