Please explain the Magnification Ratio Pop-up

Hello...I'm new to After Effects. In the Magnification Ratio Pop-up menu, can anyone please explain the differences between 'fit', 'fit to 100%', and 100%? Which of these shows how your composition truly appears within the aspect ratio that is set for the project. Thank you!

"Fit" and "Fit Up To" are designed to show you the content of the entire composition panel.

If you use programs like Photoshop or Illustrator it is the equivalent of their Fit in Window command.

These commands are intended to show you the entire visible area of your composition so you can see how all of your layers relate to each other.

Depending on your screen resolution and comp size this command may zoom in or zoom out on the comp. So if you had a small comp the Fit command may take your zoom value up above 100% while for a large comp it would scale it down.

Additionally, "fit up to" could say 100% or 200% it depends on the dpi of your screen.
The "fit" option will allow the preview to exceed 100 or 200 % while fit up to will not let the magnification exceed the listed value.
remember the higher the magnification the worse pixel based graphics will look but this is the not the preview and does not affect the export.

Good morning and thank you for replying. I'm still confused and would appreciate a little more help. Thank you. I have a composition that is 1280 x 720. It's a still image and it lives as a layer in the comp. When I view the comp window at 'Fit' and 'Fit to 100%', the image fills the composer window and I see the entire image. But if I scroll down and select '100 %', my image gets enlarged and half of it is off the screen. You would think that a value of 100% would show you the entire image and since my composition and my footage are the same pixel dimension, I should see the whole image. What am I missing about this? Thanks!!!!

Fit up to 100% means that if you resize the composition panel to a higher percentage, the composition will adjust UP TO 100%, if you resize the panel to a lower percentage the composition will adjust so that you will always see all of it, but at a scale smaller (only in the composition while you are working, not in the output).

100% means that your composition will always be at 100% and whether you resize it to a higher or lower percentage, the composition will always remain at 100%.
