Problem importing JPEG into After Effects

I am trying to import a still image (JPEG) into AE, but I am only given the option to import it as footage. When I do so, the imported photo appears as vertical lines.

How can I fix this? I am working on a PC. Thank you.

The problem is when I import this picture, it shows up in AE  as the vertical lines shown above.

Which software was used to save this JPG? Try saving to another format. Use PSD or TIFF. Stay away from JPG and other highly compressed file formats for your working files.

it is a footage and not a composition so that's normal only see "footage" option. this is not related to the issue you are facing.

the imported photo appears as vertical lines.

you posted cropped screenshot with a layer that appears to be a video layer (not a jpg still layer) with an effect applied. so show us a full screenshot of your Ae interface and tell us more about this mysterious jpg and what you are doing with this project. this crime scene has been contaminated.

Hi. Here is the full screenshot. I'm trying to import the jpeg, then layer a cropped (rotoscoped) video over it. I've already imported and edited the video. Now, I'm just having trouble importing the still image.

It looks like you did manage to import the JPG. What actually is your issue??? What are you expecting to happen and what actually happens?
