Question about timeline, frames, and document set up.

Hi community. 

 

I have been asked to export 128 frames of an animation from 0 to 128 frames, so the animation must include 128 frames when I export the PNG sequence. In the document settings I type in 00128 frames duration.

 

 

I have made a clock hand which starts from 0 on 0 frame, but then when I try to go all the way to the end of the timeline, it stops at frame 127! Why doesnt the keyframe reach all the way to 128 on the timeline since I have typed in the document settings 128?

 

 

So when I do export the PNG sequence, in the folder there are 128 PNG images, but the last one is 1_00127. So Is 0 also counted as a number, I assume?

    Counting from zero to 128 is 129 frames. Frame zero is still a frame. If you want 128 frames, then the frame numbers should be from 1 to 128. 

     

    The time indicator in After Effects always stops at the start of the frame. If you go to the outpoint of a layer or then the last frame of the Composition, the Time Indicator will show you the start of the last frame. Set the composition length to 128 frames or to 0:00:05:04 in a 24 fps comp, and the start of the last frame will show as 127 frames because the last frame has yet to play, or 0:00:05:03 using timecode because the last frame has yet to play. 

     

    There is no error here. Frame number zero is still a frame. If frame number zero has not yet been played yet, the time that has passed is zero, but the frame still exists.

    0 to 128 is 129 total, not 128 total.

     

    Imagine that you have entered a building that has 10 floors.  If the first floor is numbered "0", then the tenth floor is going to be "9".  If the first floor is numbered "1", then the tenth floor is going to be "10".

     

    If the building has 128 floors (or frames) and the first floor (or frame) is numbered "_0000", then the 128th floor (or frame) is going to be numbered "_00127".

    If you prefer the range goes from 1 to 128 instead of 0 to 127, change the Start Frame in the Sequence setting from "00000" to "0001".  

     

     

    This just changes the time stamp, so you can do it at any time without affecting the animation.
