"Turbulent Displace" effect beginners problem..

Hi,

Why does Turbulent Displace effect (I imagine any effect in general) seem tied to the screen frame area, and not to the shape it is assigned to? Sample attached.

No matter how I resize the shape, the turbulent displacement always starts morphing back into the simple line, while I need it to continue displacing itself past the screen.

Excuse the noob question!

Thanks,

Thast's just how effects work - they are tied to the layer boundaries. If you need it bigger, you have to pre-compose to a larger comp and use that as your layer.

mid level of displacement texture in painter is 0.5

so the gray color is 0.

but how I can change the mid level to 0 value, with is black is 0?

Right, pre-composing is a tutorial I skipped. Ok back to tutorials, thanks for the tip!
