Severe problem with Keylight causing After Effects to crash or glitch out no matter what I do.

Alright so, for the past few days I've been having a problem with keylight. In AE 2020 the program just crashes to desktop when I use it. When I use AE 2023 it works but all the footage glitches out in the timeline and in the rendering. Despite the fact I have 64gb of ram and a ryzen 5800x, I keep getting "Keylight out of memory". Making my footage next to unusable. For those wondering what I'm doing, it requires me to put me singing and playing guitar in a 3d space using blender.I have tried everything from different clips to changing framerates and nothing works whatsoever. This didn't happen until saturday. Wtf is going on, this has come out of nowhere and is actually affecting me badly now. I have sunk a lot of hours into this music video I'm doing. Spent days filming in front of a green screen only for this to happen. This only happens with keylight and nothing else on AE. I've already made a music video back in july using these methods and never had any problems with Keylight. In fact, it was working fine when I started importing footage on saturday, but randomly it started doing this.

PC specs:

Nvidia RTX 3080

Ryzen 5800x

64gb Corsair vengeance ram

2 SSDs and 1 HDD

For context this is a list of the things I've tried:

Changing the amount of ram that can be used.

switching from CUDA to software

Reinstalling after effects twice, even trying on one of my other SSDs.

pre-composing clips

trying different clips from a different format

using Handbreak to change file types

Using Jpegs (this doesnt crash after effects)

Changing audio hardware (this was a shot in the dark)

Using the obsolete color key (didn't crash AE but is useless)

CTRL + SHIFT + ALT to reset AE to default. (did this with 2020 and 2023)

Switching render file types, AVI or Quicktime RGB + ALPHA.

Rendering as a regular H.265 File (this worked fine in 2023)

Importing footage as a JPEG sequence (still crashes)

turning off multi-frame rendering

disabling hardware accelerated decoding

Disable hardware accelerate composition, layer panels

Using a PNG image sequence.

Have I got a virus or something? I am so frustrated with this, like I said this just happened out of the blue, I'm almost debating on reinstalling windows. It's like I have a gremlin in my pc lmao. Please help me guys, I don't know what to do, luckily I haven't got a deadline but I don't know how I'm going to make my music video with this issue. I even tried to see if anything else caused AE to crash but it doesn't. I even created a particle system to a point that made my pc sputter but it didn't crash. I'm back to 2023 now and I can't get anything to work properly. Luckily it doesn't crash but it's still useless.

Have you actually cleaned the caches? That seems to be the only thing you haven't done. Other than that it might help to see a screenshot of your footage and get info on your actual comp settings. Perhaps it's some weird color space/ color management issue or Keylight being a ***** about something else with your footage. Actual crash logs might also reveal something...

I forgot to write that down but yes I have cleared the caches a million times at this point. It changes a little but somewhere the footage will screw up again

How do I access crash logs? Thanks for your response

The crash logs, if any, appear in your Adobe folders and of course Windows itself. Start be checking the Event Viewer for traces of the crashes.

I have officially tried everything, I don't know what else to do. Even tried AE 2022 now. I have experimented with different comp settings. Everything you can thnk of. Should I do something hardware related?

So far you have not shown the actual footage and effect settings, so that's your last straw of hope. As already mentioned, Keylight is a hyper-sensitive lady on the best of days and even soemthing as trivial as an unusual aspect ratio can wack it out. Other than that of course you can laways look for alternatives in third-party plug-in suites.

The only effect on the footage is keylight, it's just regular 1920 x 1080. Seems like a done deal

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble.

I've been using Keylight in every version of After Effects since it was integrated into After Effects from the Foundry.  It's never been the source of a crash.

Which version of After Effects are you running?  Not the year, but the version number.  So, 18.4.6 or 22.6 or 23.0.

Which version of Windows are you running?

Which version of Creative Cloud Desktop are you running?

Have you tried Ultra in Premiere Pro?  While it's limited compared to Keylight, maybe it will pull the key well enough while you troubleshoot what's happening with Keylight.

Have you tried the trial version of another keyer?  Red Giant Primatte Keyer is available from Maxon as a fully functional 14-day free trial.  I use Primate Keyer if Keylight is giving me unexpected results when pulling a key and I use Keylight with Red Giant Supercomp in After Effects frequently for finishing.

Do you have a sample clip that you are willing to share?

Just an FYI:  If you're going to key footage, avoid shooting or using low-end formats like H264 and H265.  Ideally, you'd shoot with something that can record ProResRAW or the equivalent.  If not ProResRAw, ProRes 422 or equivalent.

So a couple questions.  How much space is actually available on your main hard drive you are running your OS on?  Also, how much space on whatever drive are you allocating to Cache?   The reason i ask, is you could be filling your memory up, and getting close to the brim from Media Cache alone, and AE is crashing.

Also, don't know if this helps, but I use a super tight junk mattes technique that cuts down on the amount of green i actually have to process with Keylight.  I do a simple Color Key, then Simple Choker with a negative value, and then I key the green halo that is left over around my subject. Super old tutorial, but I still use this technique every time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INw21QOLh2U
