Shatter effect unstable

Hi everyone

Ive been using the 'shatter' effect lately in AE, and it seems to be very unstable and has caused AE to crash several times. If we take what Adobe says for system requirments, my PC should be more than enough. I have a 6-core Intel processor with GTX 980ti and 16GB of RAM, so I dont think that system requirments are the problem.

And then when i finally managed to get it saved and tried to import the .aep file into Premiere Pro and exported the video into H.264, it would just show me a black screen whenever the clip with the shatter effect should show.

Has anyone experienced this too?

I am using AE v17.1

Thanks for any help in advance.

I just ran a quick test using a noise layer for a custom shape to load up Shatter as much as I could. Comp Camera and comp lights... No problems OSX 10.14.6 AE 17.1 (2020). It took a while to render (about 8 seconds per frame) this 4K insanity but it worked just fine.

Without any info about detailed settings and actual crash info we can't tell you much. That aside, pinning it on the Shatter effect is probably pre-mature. The effect hasn't changed at all and isn't even hardware-accelerated, so chances are it's much more a combination of other things.
