Shatter Effect With Left Over Loose Bricks?

Hi guys,

I figured out how to us the shatter simulation plug-in, however what I would like to accomplish is have the effect take place while at the same time have some brick tiles appear to be loose from the impact in my wall image. How would I go about achieving this?

Also, is there a more realistic way in blowing out a wall, that doesn't leave hard edges (around the blown out tiles) behind? Thank you!

The tutorials on Shatter are a bit old. I would create a custom shatter map using a frame from your video in Photoshop. You can set a different shape for each piece and make jagged edges. Then it is just a matter of animating the size and position of Force 1 to get the effect to happen where and when you want it to happen. You can even use a gradient to control the force and location of the shatter so it looks like different parts fail at different times. I don't have time to show you how right now but maybe you can find some info on custom shatter maps and using custom gradients by entering "shatter effect" in the search help field at the top right corner of After Effects. My friend Brian Maffit created about 2 hours of training on Shatter for Total Training. I think it is still out there. He should know what he is talking about, he created the plug-in.
