Updated to version 17.1 a while ago (don't dare to update to the newest version due to TO MANY BUGS!)
Now when importing images they only show in the first frame instead of the length of the composition...
I know how to prolong the frame by using "Freeze frame" but that is so tedious...
Does anybody know how to avoid this issue?
Thanks!
I simply Dragged the layer edge in timeline by holding Alt key. Worked. Need to adjust key frames later.

Hi Kirsten Tolstrup,
Thanks for reaching out.
Go to After Effects preferences > Import > make sure that "Length of Composition" is selected instead of custom duration.
Let us know if it helps.
Thanks,
Nishu

Hi Nishu,
The Preference setting has been set on Length of Composition all the time, I never changed it!
I did a small experiment and set the length to 5 sec. saved the file and then imported the footage, but it still doesn't work. The graphic footage is not being prolonged to fill out the whole 5 sec.
Do you have any other suggestions?

What happens if you add the image file from the Project panel to the Timeline (instead of adding the Comp as you are doing)?

Hi Kenneth,
thanks for your interest in my problem.
It didn't help. See this video https://share.vidyard.com/watch/iXSBaGwfwqzTyHKAPZpi9Z?
Do you have any other suggestions?

You are importing your image as image sequence. An image sequence made of one image has one frame. Is this what you want...?

I used to be able to add single images to the timeline, which would then be able to stretch to fill up the whole of the timeline. Now I have to "freeze frame" and "Pre-compose" in order to do so. That is annoying and time-consuming. Is there a way to avoid having to do this?

Can you try importing your image as is, not as image sequence?

Hi,
That did not make any difference.
But if I import the image after creating a new project, I can then set a "create composition" and specify a lengh in "still duration" before importing. But I still have to do the "pre-compose" adjustment to the layer, which I didn't have to do in an earlier version of AF...this is done in order for it to be acknowledged as a layer in the final composition. It's all very confusing and annoying and I wish I could go to the previous version, but then I risk some security flaws I guess....? Please help!

Thanks for your reply, but when i don't use the option create a composition from the footage, then I don't get the Photoshop file in layers. I need the PS file in layers.

Hi Kirsten,
Corrupt preferences could create such issues. Please try resetting them and test on a new project. Here's how: https://community.adobe.com/t5/after-effects/faq-how-to-reset-trash-preferences-in-after-effects/td-...
Let us know if it helps.
Thanks,
Nishu

Were you ever able to find a solution to this? I am having the same issues and all the advice given here does nothing to change it.

I am suddenly having this problem too, today. I checked the preferences and it's already set to "Length of Composition" in the Import section. This is so frustrating, what is the reason?

Why wasn't this at the top of the page...

If anyone ever experience the same issue. It's the file name - rename the file without spaces or special characters - worked for me

Absolutely correct. I had a dash in my name. As soon as I removed it and imported the new named file, the problem did not exist. Thanks Marlon.
